Mission

S.T.A.R.S.’ mission since 2001 is to find talented teens that seek to fulfill a successful career in the music/recording, film/video, and performing Arts industries and develop them into knowledgeable noteworthy adults.

They are apprised of the many “behind the scenes” career opportunities ranging from sound engineers, lighting technicians, camera operators, animators, and software developers. and artists to performers (vocalists, musicians, writers, producers, managers, directors, arrangers, publicists, agents, and a host of other administrative (legal, accounting, management and etc.), professional positions with new careers and
business opportunities emerging in the digital and mobile environment.

The S.T.A.R.S. program is based upon the business model of Jr. Achievement combined with the creative and competitive, musical concepts of Motown Records: participants run their own music business.

Artist Development

Artist Development is the process any musician goes through to develop their craft and skills necessary to build a professional career in the music industry. This means everything from voice, songwriting, image and branding, music and video production, live performance, marketing and social media.

Director of Artist Development

Tyshawn Colquitt was born to sing. He has a phenomenal voice, with range and control. He began his professional career at the tender age of 13 when he traveled to New York and won the Apollo not once but 3 times. He sang “Who’s Loving You” by Michael Jackson.

CHOREOGRAPHER

Tay Williams aka “Coach Tay” is the official STARS choreographer. He has literally been dancing all of his life. He graduated from Linden-Mckinley High School in Columbus Ohio and was one of the top track stars in the USA.

DIRECTOR OF STARS – WESTCOAST

Norman Whitfield Jr grew up surrounded by music. His father was the noted songwriter, Norman Whitfield, who penned such classic hits as “I Heard It Through the Grapevine”, “Just My Imagination”, “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”, and the disco era hit “Car Wash”.

DIRECTOR of Film & Video Ghana

Dennis Ctm (COBBLAH TACHIE-MENSON) was born in Ghana on the 21st June 1985.
He graduated from Mawuli Senior High School in Ghana in 2003.
It was there that he attended a Multimedia Presentation at Infotech Solution in 2003 from the London C&G International. He was so excited afterwards that he volunteered his services at Mawuli Senior High School Computer Laboratory. It was then that he realized his passion to move into multimedia production studying videography, photography, graphic design, radio presentation, radio commercials and voice-overs.

In 2004, he went fully into Multimedia Production.
He later worked at Apex Advertising and Post Production in Accra as a motion graphic designer and editor
He Also worked with Sleek Media Group and later decided to start DCTM.
Currently He is a Cinematographer and a Talent Initiator. He has hopes of becoming a humanitarian due to his love for children and the elderly.

Director of operations europe

Priscilla Aroean is an established fashion stylist by trade and an entrepreneur enthusiast. She uses her creativity, skills and talent to help other founders with making their brands stand out as well as communicating their vision effectively.  She was surrounded by music from an early age, loves to sing and is passionate about helping young people find their voice in a noisy world. Her startup ARAH will be launched this year to leave a positive impact on those who are underrepresented and to raise awareness of the BIPOC communities in western countries.

HOST FOR GLOBAL ICON AUSTRALIA

Parlema Wilson better known as PJ is a very proud Indigenous Australian, Vanuatu, Guyanese and African American woman. She believes music and dance are a great way to connect people worldwide. She will be a host of an upcoming podcast called ‘where do we start’ which tackles issues in the black and brown communities on an international scale. She is passionate about travel, culture and sharing her stories with whomever has an open ear to hear them. She is looking forward her role of hosting “Global Icons” and sharing the exploits of the young upcoming artists on the Australian continent.

About Chris Powell

Chris Powell is a professional musician, producer, manager, and educator. He has been in the music business for more than 30 years.
S.T.A.R.S. was created by musician / producer Chris Powell. Some of the artists he has worked with include Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Destiny’s Child (Beyonce), Troop, Teen Dream and Paula Abdul. Powell has more than 30 years of music experience and was and artist and producer signed with Motown Records.

S.T.A.R.S. has locations in the USA and also INTERNATIONALLY.

For the past 4 years S.T.A.R.S. has had locations in Cincinnati, Columbus and more recently in the LeBron James Boys and Girls Club in Akron.

The program also has participants in South Africa, Ghana, Brazil, England, and Australia.
